Duties and Responsibilities

CITY OF NEW UNDERWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA
JOB DESCRIPTION


JOB TITLE: Manager
DEPARTMENT: Swimming Pool
REPORTS TO: Finance Office
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Plans, directs, leads and supervises the pool operations under the direction of the Finance Office. The Pool Manager supervises the lifeguards and concession workers.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for preparing the swimming pool for public use, operations of the pool and
closing the pool for the season. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Scheduling of lifeguards (regulate the number of guards required at any given time) and swimming lessons,
Concession stand operations (ordering and maintaining an inventory, ensure no loss on products sold),
Checking the pool chlorine and PH Levels at least three times per day,
Light mechanical duties,
Organize and maintain records (water testing logs, attendance, etc.),
Daily revenue (delivered to the Finance Office); and,
Scheduling and recording when the bathhouse is cleaned.
* Responsible for ensuring the safety of all pool users.
* Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pool.
* Be alert for potential weather conditions.
* Must enforce and comply with the rules and regulations established by the City Council.
* Respond to complaints and requests from the public.
* Respond to complaints from employees and act as a mediator where necessary to resolve conflict.
* Maintain confidentiality with regard to non-disclosed City issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Ability to supervise effectively; Basic knowledge of swimming pool operations, practices, and maintenance is encouraged, but not required; Ability to perform light mechanical duties of the pool operation and may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; Ability to maintain records and prepare reports; Ability to make basic mathematical calculations and count money; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to deal with the public and represent the City in a positive manner; Ability to be calm under pressure and able to resolve conflict in what could, at times, be a hostile environment. Ability to perform related work as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must be a Certified Life Guard, preferably YMCA certified. Must have CPR and First Aid Certification as well as complete a Certified Pool Operators course.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The job is seasonal. Working hours will range from 6-10 per day, some nights and weekends, depending on how many hours you feel are necessary to complete the job. As a seasonal position, employee is not eligible for overtime. Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted throughout employment.
