MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center on January 19, 2021. Present were: Mayor Teresa Hall, Councilmembers: Larry Graham, Tera Hockenbary, Tara Richter and Kathy Trullinger. Also present: Meri Jo Anderson, Finance Director, Kristi Pritzkau, Finance Officer, Public Works Director Tim Hall, Ken Charfauros, Janet Niehaus, Kevin Larson, Tom Fitch, Kyle and Katie Roe, Caleb Dustman and Danny Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance following.
AGENDA
Motion by K. Trullinger seconded by Graham to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.
MINUTES
Motion by Hockenbary second by Richter to approve the January 5, 2021 minutes. Aye: all. Motion carried.
FINANCE REPORTS
Governmental fund sheets and yearly comparisons were presented. It was explained that the Revenue sheets total will be $56.60 less than reported as a credit card payment that was recorded was never deposited into the City account.
CECILIA LANE
After some discussion concerning the delay in installing the sewer line at Cecilia Lane there was a motion by Hockenbary seconded by Richter to enact a deadline of 30 days from the date of this meeting to have the project completed or a quote from another business will be obtained. Aye: all. Motion carried.
PUBLIC WORKS
· Mr. Hall reported that a service line connected to another service line had broken up by the Rodeo Grounds. The access to the shut off had to be cleaned out and the owners of the two lines were informed that the expense to clean this out is not the responsibility of the City.
The garbage truck is running much better.
He will call to inquire as to when the Christmas lights will be taken down at the Community Center as Public Works does not have the equipment necessary to do this.
WALL MEATS
Ken Charfauros stated that it has been decided that New Underwood is the ideal location for the new meat processing plant and educational center. He explained they may decide to build a modular unit inside of a steel building that can be upgraded as needed instead of a brick-and-mortar building. Either one will be attractive on the outside. Building permits will be filled out when more has been decided. The Mayor and Council expressed excitement about this great opportunity for our community.
BOYDSTON PROPERTY
It was suggested that this property be annexed prior to sale so the property can receive city water. Councilor Graham requested that Mr. Hall look into what if any improvements will be necessary to the booster pumps. Caleb Dustman from the New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department expressed interest in the amount of growth projected in the local area.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
Motion by Graham second by Hockenbary to authorize the Mayor’s signature on the Pennington County Law Enforcement contract. Aye: all. Motion carried.
CITY WIDE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
It was moved by Hockenbary seconded by Richter to approve the renewal of the CodeRED community notification system and for the finance officer to begin implementing the Everbridge notification system for no cost through Pennington County and to switch when ready to fully implement the new system. Aye: all. Motion carried.
EQUALIZATION MEETING
The equalization meeting on March 15, 2021 will begin at 3 p.m. at the Community Center.
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:
The new lights at the Community Center look great and are very effective.
Being no further business Mayor Hall adjourned the meeting at 6:35 p.m.
