Minutes May 15, 2007




A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held on May 15, 2007, at 6:00 p.m.  Present were: Mayor Benita White, Councilmembers: Jackie Dahlquist, Michael Green, Tyler Richter, and John Torrey.  Also present:  Fin. Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dir. of Public Works Greg Hall, City Staff:  Tralice Ellis, Mike Holloway, & Rob Goodman;  Cris Allen & Larry Hockenbary.   



A hearing for the placement of a mobile home on a single lot at 417 S. “B” Ave. was held at 6:00 p.m.  Letters were sent to 6 adjacent property owners and one called in support of this permit.  No one else presented themselves to voice any objections to this permit.  Larry Hockenbary questioned the Council on set backs & variances.  The hearing adjourned at 6:05 p.m. with the regular meeting called to order immediately following.



Moved by Torrey second by Richter to approve the amended agenda.  Aye: all. Motion carried.



Moved by Torrey second by Richter to approve the May 1, 2007 minutes as presented.  Aye:  all.  Motion carried.    



The lab reran the radiological and the State has accepted the letter and the lower reading.  We have passed three quarters and need one more good quarter.    



The geothermal is being installed and two of the units are up and running.  We are waiting on an electrician on the third unit. 

Storage shed for the Community Center is in.   



The Finance Officer explained how the Commission meeting went today.  The Maps the Commission requested were received by the City and the Council looked these over.  The Council decided that Council President Green should address the Commission due to his engineering degree.  The Finance Officer was instructed to contact the attorney.  It is again up to the City Staff if they want to attend the meeting as taxpayers.



#07-07; Larry & Tera Hockenbary; 417 S. “B” Ave; (old Janis House) move on a mobile home (manufactured home) on a single lot; 28’ X 56” and a deck.

After discussion on water, sewer, set backs, & variances it was moved  by Richter second by Dahlquist to approve 07-07 pending payment & paperwork, and approve the variance for a six foot set back to the north for a deck pending a signed letter from the adjacent property owner giving permission.  Aye: all.  Motion carried.



  1. The Finance Officer presented the governmental funds sheets.    
  2. City Hall was tabled, the Mayor will be speaking to a structural engineer. 
  3. Blocking of Street during sale.
  4. Kindergarten celebration Wednesday Night.  The local businesses donated some nice gifts for the children.
  5. Engelhart Estates still working on proposal, so this is tabled.


Being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
