Minutes January 15, 2020

MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL


A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center on January 15, 2020. Present were: Mayor Jack Trullinger, Councilmembers: Teresa Gossard, Larry Graham, and Kathy Trullinger. Absent: Karin Shoemaker. Also present: Kristi Pritzkau, Finance Officer, Melanie and Josie Tish, Rick McPherson, Casey, Cale, Allen, Coby and Abby Tippmann and Michelle, Natalie and Carson Volmer. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Trullinger with the Pledge of Allegiance following.



AGENDA

Motion by Graham second by K. Trullinger to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.



MINUTES

Moved by Gossard second by K. Trullinger to approve the January 8, 2020 minutes as presented. Aye: all. Motion carried.



2020 ELECTION

The 2020 election is set for April 14, 2020. The vacancy notice has been posted and will be published as required by SDCL. Mayor Trullinger and Councilors Gossard and Shoemaker terms are up and circulation of petitions may begin January 31st, 2020.



MAYOR

The curb stop at 201 S. C Ave. has been located and cleaned out so the meter can be replaced.
Councilors Gossard and Graham plan to attend the Legislative Rib Dinner on February 4th and the Municipal Government day at the Legislature on February 5, 2020. City staff will attend also if able.


100 S. D AVE

Building Permit #20-01 which was previously denied as it regards a shed that does not meet the 10 foot setback requirement was discussed. It was moved by Graham seconded by Gossard to deny this until further proof is presented that the previous structure was in exactly the same spot. The Ordinance does not allow for a variance otherwise. Aye: all. Motion carried.



LEGO LEAGUE

The Tiger Tech Lego League made a presentation to the Council with an idea of how to accommodate wheelchair bound individuals at the school to the second floor as there is no elevator. It was explained how these groups build teamwork and other core values for those involved. The Tiger Tech group won the 1st place trophy for Core Values this year. The New Underwood Tigers Lego League is working on an idea of how to get a community garden so that more fresh fruits and vegetables can be available for the school. Both New Underwood Lego League teams have qualified for the State Competition in Sioux Falls on February 1, 2020. The Council thanked them for the great presentation and for explaining what they do.



BUILDING PERMIT # 20-02

Motion by Gossard second by K. Trullinger to approve Building Permit #20-02; Roy Philipsen; 200 E. Pine St.; 57; x 28’ home with 32’ x 32’ attached garage as it meets all setbacks. Aye: all. Motion carried.



C.O.R.E.

Rick McPherson requested volunteers and a donation for C.O.R.E. (freshman impact) program. The local program will be at the Douglas school in Box Elder. It was moved by Gossard seconded by Graham to donate $200.00 as in previous years. Aye: all. Motion carried.



OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:

Governmental fund sheets and yearly comparisons were presented.
Rooms will be reserved for the City officials attending the Legislative Day in Pierre February 4, 2020.


Being no further business Mayor Trullinger adjourned the meeting at 6:19 p.m.
