MINUTES OF THE NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held on May 4, 2005 at 7:05 p.m. Present were: Mayor Benita White, Councilmembers: Jackie Dahlquist, Michael Green, and LeeAnn Schumacher. Absent: Tyler Richter. Also present: The Fin. Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dir. Public Works Greg Hall, Asst. Finance Officer Teresa Gossard, Officer Wardle, Officer Wilhelm, and Al Ackerman.

Moved by Schumacher second by Dahlquist to approve the amended agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.

MINUTES

Motion by Dahlquist second by Green to approve the April 19, 2005 minutes and acknowledge the April School Board minutes. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 The Finance Officer presented the financial reports, bill-list and vouchers. Motion by Schumacher second by Dahlquist to approve the financial reports and the following warrants as presented. GARBAGE

Garbage will not be picked up May 9th & 10th – pick up will be May 12th.

STAGE

The City will request the use of the stage for the Kindergarten celebration on May 27, 2005. Only a couple of sections will be needed, and Mr. G. Hall will put them up and take them down.The stage committee reported the money for the drapes and skirting has been collected and so they have been ordered. Also the money for the backdrops and PA system is currently being raised.

WATER TEST

The radiological test for this quarter came back good, so hopefully we are on track, and can get the three positive reports the next three quarters.The check valves still need replaced, only one has been replaced.

PUBLIC WORKS STAFF

Mr. Hall reported he has hired two young adults to work this summer. Public Works will start Chip Sealing the streets in June.

 LAW ENFORCEMENT

Officer Wardle introduced his trainee – Carissa Wilhelm.The sign painting is under investigation with some good leads. Officer Wardle reported that he applied for and received an investigator position. This is a promotion and the Council congratulated him. He will be here another six months.

CITY HALL RENOVATION

A Special meeting will be set up to receive public input on this renovation. A letter will be sent to the State this week.

OATH OF OFFICE

The Mayor administered the oath of office to Alderman Green. Alderman Richter will take his oath of office at the next meeting.

COUNCIL PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT

Schumacher nominated Dahlquist for President. Green nominated Richter for President. After discussion, it was moved by Schumacher to nominate Dahlquist for Council President and Richter for Council Vice President. Motion seconded by Dahlquist. Aye: all. Motion carried.

BUILDING PERMITS

BP#05-13; Vaughn Stover; 214 S. Monroe; garage & driveway.Moved by Schumacher second by Dahlquist to approve this permit. Aye: all. Motion carried.

Moved by Dahlquist second by Schumacher to approve the Mayors recommendations for appointments and designations. Aye: all. Motion carried.The Mayor will administer the oath of office to the Finance Officer tomorrow.

COMMUNITY CENTER RENT

Ron Racicky requested a reduction in the rent for the Community Center for the Rhonda Thompson Benefit. The Council does not want to set a precedence of lowering the rent for benefits. The Mayor, Council, and Staff will donate money to pay the rent cost.

ADDRESS CHANGES

The Mayor will be sending out letter to some of the residents for changing their addresses. 911 is having some problems finding a few of our addresses the way they are currently set up.

OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT MEETING

• The Dir. of Public Works reported that the tires have been removed from the landfill, so all tire disposal will now cost.
•  The district meeting will be in Keystone April 20, the staff, Mayor, and some of the Council attended.
• The Community Center received its spring-cleaning.
• The animal clinic was held on April 24, 2005 with 25 licenses being sold and over fifty animals vaccinated. Wasta will hold their animal clinic on May 15th.
