MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

 

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center on July 15, 2015. Present were: Mayor Jack Trullinger, Council member’s: Larry Graham, Laurie Holloway, and Kathy Trullinger. Absent Rikka Buchtel. Also present: Finance Officer Meri Jo Anderson, PW Supervisor Tim Hall, Deputy McPherson, Marvin Rask, Randy Madsen, and Dianne Trullinger. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Jack Trullinger.

 

AGENDA

Motion by Trullinger second by Graham to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

MINUTES

Moved by Graham second by Holloway to approve the July 1, 2015 as published.  Aye: all.

Motion carried.

 

PUBLIC WORK SUPERVISOR

  • Mr. Hall attended a certification class in Watertown.
  • He cannot order anymore EZ Street this year, they are no longer making it.
  • The distributor is still leaking, Sheehan reported they had fixed it, but it is not, so they will be down next week.

 

2016 BUDGET

The Finance Officer presented the preliminary budget figures and will try to implement some of the ideas presented at the budget workshop she and Councilor Graham attended today. Ideas to include in budget: base coarse for alley’s, lagoon, park concrete, water and sewer line replacement. The finance officer will e-mail the priority list to the Council.

 

OPEN BIDS BUICK REGAL

The Mayor opened the sealed bids that were received on the Buick Regal: Ricky Geditz - $112.00; Marvin Rask - $300.00; Tony Ascrizzi - $329.99. Motion by K. Trullinger second Graham to accept these bids. Aye: all. Motion carried. Moved by Graham second by Holloway to award the bid to the highest bidder Tony Ascrizzi for $329.99. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

LABOR DAY

Randy Madsen requested the street be closed and open container be allowed on Labor Day September 7, 2015 on “A” Ave from Elm to Oak St. during the hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. He would like to hold lawn mower races. Deputy McPherson had concerns on liability problems and that DUI’s will be issued for drinking and driving motorized vehicles on a street. Mr. Madsen said he would look at different options. Motion by Holloway second by K. Trullinger to grant this request. Aye: all. Motion carried.

Ron Racicky requested the use of the Community Center for Sunday September 6 for the Labor Day steamburger feed; back yard of City Hall for horseshoes; and to close “A” Ave from Oak to Elm from 1 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and to allow open container from Oak to Elm and the horseshoe pits in the back yard at City Hall, and the park from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.. Motion by Graham second by Holloway to grant these requests. Aye: all. Motion carried.

Please note the Labor Day Celebration will be on Sunday instead of Monday with the steamburger feed at 11:30. Games will start at 1:00 p.m. with the parade at 4:00 p.m. and rodeo at 5:00 p.m.

 

SPIKING PERMITS

#15-04; Jenna Seieroe; September 19, 2015; Wedding reception and dance. Motion by Holloway second by K. Trullinger to approve this permit. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

BUILDING PERMITS

BP#15-10; Steve & Sheila Hahn; 212 S. “D” Ave.; move off permit. This permit will be removed from the agenda until more information and signatures are received.

 

OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:

  1. The finance officer presented the monthly governmental funds sheets.

  2. The Mayor reported that public works had mowed at one of the mobile home parks and the owner has been billed.

  3. Affordable Tree Service subcontracted the tree and stump removal at the park, keeping the price the same. Ruth Ekern is getting the name of the new company.

  4. A Blood Drive will be held at the Community Center for August 25, 2015, and the charge for the community center for blood drives will continue to be waived.

  5. The Council agreed that people should not pull up on the sidewalk out front of the Community Center to unload or load. The Mayor will pursue options on ways to block entry by vehicles to this area.

     

    Being no further business Mayor Trullinger adjourned the meeting at 6:48 p.m.
