MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held on February 15, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. Present were: Mayor Benita White, Councilmembers: Jackie Dahlquist, Larry Graham, Michael Green, and LeeAnn Schumacher. Also present: The Fin. Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Asst. Fin. Officer Teresa Gossard, Dir. Public Works Greg Hall, Officer Przymus, George & Roger Bills, and Al Ackerman.
NORTH WATERLINE
Background information and discussion on the 1988 contract & new addendum followed. After input from those in attendance the new addendum was presented to the Council for their consideration. Later in the meeting it was moved by Graham second by Schumacher to authorize the Mayor’s signature on this addendum to the 1988 contract. Discussion followed. Roll call vote. Aye: Dahlquist, Graham, Green, and Schumacher. Nay: none. Motion carried.
AGENDA
Moved by Green second by Dahlquist to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.
MINUTES
Motion by Schumacher second by Dahlquist to approve the February 1, 2006 minutes. Aye: all. Motion carried.
NURSING STUDENTS
A nursing class from SDSU has chosen New Underwood for their class Community Assessment project. One of their ventures to help the Community is placing informational pamphlets at City Hall. Alderman Graham donated a card rack for these pamphlets. The Council also agreed that the Nursing Class could use the Community Center for one of their projects if necessary.
CLEAN UP DAY AND ANIMAL CLINIC
Clean Up week-end will be April 22 & 23 with an alternate date for inclement weather being May 6 & 7. The City Dump will be open and manned both days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Citizens are responsible for transporting their own items to the rubble site. Elderly and/or disabled citizens should contact City Hall in advance if they need items picked up.
The Animal Clinic will be April 23rd at City Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
METAL AT THE DUMP
The Dir. of Public Works reported that a company out of Sturgis will take our metal. They will take our current pile and set up a big roll off dumpster for our future use. The citizens will continue to pile their metal in the metal pile and the Public Works Staff will load it in the dumpster. Motion by Schumacher second by Green to grant this request. Aye: all. Motion carried.
GARBAGE TRUCK
The garbage truck transmission went out last week. It has been fixed and the bill is approximately $3,000.00. The City will talk to the owner about the two bills to see if they can get them reduced.
WATER
The Director of Public Works reported that the State has found WRT to be a reputable firm in the removal of radium. The State is looking for a volunteer research site to study the results of radium filtering. Mr. Hall will continue to pursue this option. The City Engineer mentioned a Company that filters the radium and puts it right in the sewer system he will include this information in his water feasibility study for the Council’s perusal. The Mayor will speak to the State Hydrologist about possible formation problems or any other helpful information on helping to solve the radium problem.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
Officer Przymus mentioned on going investigations, changing hours, and the return of the Speed Board, he also liked the Bank’s Chili.
2006 INSURANCE
The Water storage tank has now been added to the insurance, but needs to state it is 236,000 gallons. Also the ground storage pole barn coverage needs to be reduced. Mr.
G. Hall will get the measurements and pricing.
DRAINAGE ON WEST 1416
Mr. Kerry Bowman found the availability of some dirt to the north of the City for the drainage on west 1416. Mr. G. Hall spoke to this landowner and made arrangements to obtain this dirt. Since 1416 is a
GARBAGE
Buzzy Johnson requested the reduced dumpster rate since he does not have a large volume of garbage. Motion by Schumacher second by Green that this lower rate is not allowable since he is not in the City limits. Aye: all. Motion carried.
Citizens are reminded to use the dumpster closest to their residence.
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT MEETING
- The Finance Officer presented the governmental funds reports.
- Voter Registration, voter challenge, election board.
- City Hall renovation was tabled.
- Jeb Enck seminar is Feb. 23, 2006.
Being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting at 8:16 p.m.
