MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

 

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center on January 18, 2017. Present were: Mayor Jack Trullinger, Councilmembers: Teresa Gossard, Larry Graham, Karin Shoemaker, and Kathy Trullinger. Also present: Meri Jo Anderson, Finance Officer, Dir. of Public Works Tim Hall, Deputy McPherson, and Dianne Trullinger. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Trullinger.

AGENDA

Motion by Gossard second by Shoemaker to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

MINUTES

Moved by Shoemaker second by K. Trullinger to approve the January 11, 2017 minutes as presented. Aye: all. Motion carried. 

 

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Deputy McPherson requested volunteers and a donation for C.O.R.E. (freshman impact) program. The program will be at Douglas May 3, 2017. Some of the Council volunteered to help.  The request for money will be put on the next agenda.

 

CODERED ALERT SYSTEM

CodeRED alert system is working in other Hills towns so the City of New Underwood will try out this system. Contact information will be forwarded by our citizens to CodeRED so that they may be contacted of important public notices that affect them by text, email, or phone.

 

RESOLUTION NUMBER 17-01

 

WHEREAS the New Underwood City Council recognizes the need to communicate matters of public interest and concerns to its citizens in a timely fashion, and

 

WHEREAS CodeRED Emergency Notifications Systems allows municipalities to generate high speed notifications to citizens via an internet-hosted software application, and

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the New Underwood City Council that a service agreement be entered into with Emergency Communications Network (CodeRED) for a one year period in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00) and authorize the Mayor’s signature on this agreement.

After discussion it was moved by Shoemaker second by Graham to accept Resolution Number 17-01. Roll call vote. Aye: Gossard, Graham, Shoemaker, and Trullinger. Nay: none. Motion carried.

 

MUNICIPAL LEGISLATIVE DAY PIERRE

Municipal Legislative Day in Pierre February 7 & 8. All of the Council plan on attending, so this will be considered a special meeting, with no official city business being conducted.

 

2017 ELECTION

The 2017 election, if needed, is set for April 11, 2017. The vacancy notice has been posted and will be published as required by SDCL, Councilors Graham and K. Trullinger terms are up. Circulating of petitions may begin January 27th.

 

MAYORS CHALLENGE

Mayor Trullinger reported more on the Black Hills Mayor Challenge, raising monies for cancer research & programs that will publicly kick off on January 25th with a chili cook off in Rapid City. LIQUID ENGINEERING CONTRACT

Two quotes were received on cleaning the water storage tank: Engineering America - $3500.00 and Liquid Engineering - $2795.00. Liquid Engineering has done the cleaning on the water storage tank the last three cleanings, which is done every three years. Whereupon Resolution Number 17-02 was introduced.

 

RESOLUTION NUMBER 17-02

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the New Underwood City Council to authorize the Mayor’s signature on a contract with Liquid Engineering to clean the water storage tank in 2017, with payment within 30 days of completion of onsite work, in the amount of $2,795.00, with this resolution incorporated in the contract.

 OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:

  1. Mr. Hall reported that he had burned the wood pit at the dump this week-end.
  2. Yard of Beef.

 

Being no further business Mayor Trullinger adjourned the meeting at 7:18 P.M.
