MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held on January 19, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. Present were: Mayor Benita White, Councilmembers: Jackie Dahlquist, Tyler Richter, and LeeAnn Schumacher. Absent: Michael Green. Also present: The Fin. Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dir. of Public Works Greg Hall, Asst. Finance Officer Teresa Gossard, Officer Wardle, Officer Foster, and Al Ackerman.
AGENDA
Moved by Richter second by Schumacher to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.
MINUTES
Motion by Dahlquist second by Schumacher to approve the Jan. 5 & Jan. 6, 2005 minutes. Aye: all. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The Finance Officer presented the governmental funds statements. Discussion on the health insurance followed. Councilwoman Dahlquist requested that the Board be more involved in the options presented. When the renewals are presented, these will be presented to the Council.
PUBLIC WORKS
Mr. Hall reported that one person has applied for the maintenance position. Since Jack goes back for his review next week and is improving we will hold off on interviewing anyone until we know for sure when Jack can return to work. The applicant will be contacted explaining the situation.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
Officer Wardle is currently training Officer Foster. He reported on a burglary that is being investigated.
WATER & SEWER AVAILABILITY REQUEST
Ec. Dev. Corporation – Water & Sewer Availability – 204 S. Janklow
Motion by Schumacher second by Richter to approve this request. Aye: all. Motion carried.
COMMUNITY CENTER
Purchasing a changing table for the community center was discussed. The types, insurance, installation, and pricing were topics of the discussion. The Mayor will donate a table for the community center.
ABATEMENT
An abatement on taxes for the house located at 303 S. Bailey that burned down was presented. Motion by Richter second by Dahlquist to grant this abatement. Aye: all. Motion carried.
SEMINAR
The regional finance officer’s association will be sponsoring a motivational seminar in April for all municipal officials. Motion by Dahlquist second by Schumacher that the City pays the $50.00 sponsorship. Aye: all. Motion carried.
ELECTED OFFICIALS SALARY
Discussion on amending the salary ordinance for the elected officials followed. Since there has not been an increase since 1992 and comparing what other municipalities are currently paying, the salaries should be raised. Whereupon Ordinance Number 05-01 received its first reading. This increases the Council salary from $30.00 a meeting to $50.00 a meeting. Moved by Schumacher second by Dahlquist to accept the first reading of Ordinance Number 05-01. Aye: Dahlquist & Schumacher. Nay: Richter. Motion carried
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED THROUGHOUT MEETING
Legislative Day in Pierre is scheduled for Feb. 1 & Feb. 2. The Mayor, Councilwoman Dahlquist, and the Finance Staff plan on attending.
DOT renumbering.
Being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
