MINUTES OF THE

NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

  

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center on February 15, 2012.  Present were: Mayor Jack Trullinger, Council member’s: Rikka Buchtel, Bob Hall, and Laurie Holloway.  Absent: Joe Whitney. Also present: Finance Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dir. Of Public Works John Bale, Cris Allen, Jim  & Kathy Harbert, Dianne Trullinger, Travis & Joseph Lassiter, Deputy McPherson, Corp. Ron Nordell, Dustin Willett, and Sheila White. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Trullinger.

 

AGENDA

Motion by Buchtel second by Hall to approve the agenda.  Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

MINUTES 

Moved by Holloway second by Buchtel to approve the February 1, 2012 minutes as presented.  Aye: all.  Motion carried. 

 

 

PUBLIC WORKS

Mr. Bale reported the west water main extension will be done in a couple of days; the truck brakes went out on the blue dump truck and it fell in the trench, the public works staff will try to repair it themselves; Mr. Bale passed his final certification test and is now completely certified. 

 

NORTH “C” AVENUE

A citizen requested information on the plan to repair North “C” Ave.  The Director of Public Works explained that they are going to establish drainage on this street and then resurface.

 

NUISANCE ORDINANCE

Nuisance Ordinance Number 12-01 received its second reading.  Motion by Holloway second by Buchtel to approve the second reading.  Roll call vote.  Aye: Buchtel, Hall, and Holloway. Nay: none.  Motion carried.  A copy of the nuisance ordinance is available at city hall and on line at www.newunderwood.com.

 

COMMUNITY CENTER

More quotes were obtained on the flooring for the Community Center. Flooring America - $13,651.20; School Specialty – 22,305.00 or 29,005.00 installed; Elite Xpressions – 16,161.60.  The Flooring America flooring cannot be used for roller skating, the other two are guaranteed for roller skating. After some discussion it was moved by Buchtel second by Holloway to table this until more options are researched.  Aye: all.  Motion carried.

 

LEGISLATIVE DAY

Councilors Buchtel and Holloway reported on Legislative Day in Pierre and how informative it was.  They both enjoyed the committee meetings and watching the process of the making of laws.

 

PENNINGTON COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Dustin Willett, Pennington County Emergency Management Director, introduced himself and spoke to the council about the new mitigation plan they are developing and requested input from the City over the next few months.

 

Other items discussed:

  1. Mayor Trullinger reported the Black Hills Mayors meeting will be February 23.
  2. Mayor Trullinger requested the Council let the office know if they plan on attending the District 9 meeting in Edgemont on April 18, 2012.  .
  3. The City of New Underwood’s Future Use Permit Hearing for water availability will be in Pierre on March 7, 2012 with the Mayor and Mr. Bale attending.
  4. City park improvement tabled.

 

 

Being no further business Mayor Trullinger adjourned the meeting at 6:25 p.m.
