MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

 

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center on August 17, 2016. Present were: Mayor Jack Trullinger, Councilmembers: Teresa Gossard, Laurie Holloway, Karin Shoemaker, and Kathy Trullinger.  Also present: Meri Jo Anderson, Finance Officer, Tim Hall, Dir. of Public Works, Deputy McPherson, Mike Holloway, and Dianne Trullinger.

AGENDA

Motion by Holloway second by Gossard to approve the agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.

 

MINUTES

Moved by Shoemaker second by K. Trullinger to approve the August 3, 2016 minutes as presented.   Aye: all. Motion carried. 

 

LAW ENFORCEMENT

The written monthly report was presented. Street dance went well except for the rain.

 

CITY HALL REPAIR

Mayor Trullinger requested putting screen doors on the City Hall when they are putting tin on the roof. Motion by Shoemaker second by Gossard to spend up to $1,000.00 on screen doors for city hall. Aye: all. Motion carried.

NUISANCE ORDINANCE AMENDMENT

Ordinance Number 16-04 received its second reading.

ARTICLE VII; SECTION B             AMENDMENT

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ARTICLE VII - NUISANCES; SECTION B – DEFINITIONS

 

BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council for the City of New Underwood that Article VII; Section B; Definitions, be amended to read as follows:

 

SECTION B. ANIMALS

 

Definitions

The following words and terms as used in this chapter, unless context requires, shall mean and are defined as follows:

  1. "Animal" means tamed, domesticated and other animals, including but not limited to dogs, cats, horses, sheep, swine (including China Pigs), mammal, reptile, insect (this does not include commercial apiaries, who are licensed through the state), bird or amphibians, and other pets, both male and female, and whether in the singular or plural; provided, however, that some of the following sections relate only to dogs.

ORDINANCE NUMBER 16-05

Ordinance Number 16-05, an ordinance to amend alcohol beverages ordinance to conform with new state laws received its first reading. Moved by Shoemaker second by Gossard to approve the first reading of Ordinance Number 16-05. Aye: all.  Motion carried.

 

BUILDING PERMITS

BP#16-17; Travis Madsen; 22723 161st Ave; Machine Shed

Moved by K. Trullinger second by Shoemaker to approve this permit. Aye: all.  Motion carried.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion by Buchtel second by Holloway to go into executive session at 6:20 p.m. as per SDCL 1-25-2 (3). Aye: all.  Motion carried.

The Mayor adjourned the executive session at 6:30 p.m. and reconvened to regular session.

 

 OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:

  1. SDML Conference October 5-7, 2016 in Rapid City.
  2. Public Works is chip sealing and fixing equipment.
  3. Mayor explained that Josh Larsen with the forestry department’s tree program would like to talk to the Council at a meeting in September.       The Council agreed he should be invited to the meeting.
  4. August 20th is the last day the Sami Jo pool will be open.

 

Being no further business Mayor Trullinger adjourned the meeting at 6:31 P.M.
