MINUTES OF THE
NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL
A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center on November 19, 2008. Present were: Mayor Benita R. White, Councilmember’s: Michael Green, John Torrey, and Jack Trullinger; Absent: Tyler Richter. Also present: Finance Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dir. Public Works Greg Hall Deputy McPherson, Cris & Keira Allen, and Jackie Dahlquist.
PUBLIC HEARING – LIQUOR LICENSES
A public hearing on liquor licenses for R.K’s; Randall & Kathryn Madsen; 22790 161st Street; Package & Retail Liquor (on & off sale), Rumors; BMW Enterprises, Inc.; 524 S. “A” Ave; Package & Retail Liquor (on & off sale), and for Steve Brandsted; Steve’s Superstore, Inc. – 22797 161st Ave.; Retail (on sale). No one presented themselves to voice any objections to these licenses. The public hearing adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
Moved by Green second by Torrey to approve the amended agenda. Aye: all. Motion carried.
Moved by Trullinger second by Green to approve the November 5, 2008 minutes as presented. Aye: all. Motion carried.
The Mayor and Council commended the public works staff for the snow removal job over the storm weekend.
A call list of the youth who do snow removal for a fee will be available at City Hall for citizens who need help. If you would like on this list please contact City Hall.
The City again requests that citizens do not park on the street when a storm is predicted. These cars cause larger drifts and make it impossible for the City crews to remove the snow properly.
The Council discussed how to get stranded motorist to the Community Center during storms. A couple of cases of MRE’s for feeding these people will be purchased and stored at the Community Center.
Snow fence on the west side of the City was discussed. This has not been done for over 15 years.
Nuisance Ordinance #08-06 received its first reading again. Motion by Trullinger second by Green to approve the first reading of Ordinance Number 08-06. Aye: Green and Trullinger. Nay: Torrey. Motion did not pass, since the ayes were not a majority of the Council, need 3 ayes of the 4 councilmen.
BUILDING PERMIT FORM
The Mayor and Council discussed changes they would like on the building permit form. Signature line, staking, disclaimer, copy of electrical & plumbing inspections or permit numbers will be incorporated into the form and prepared for the next meeting.

Since no one presented themselves to voice any objections it was moved by Torrey second by Green to approve these liquor licenses for the year 2009. Aye: all. Motion carried.

It was moved by Torrey second by Green to approve these permits. Aye: all. Motion carried.
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:
- The Finance Officer presented the monthly governmental funds sheets and the 2008 swimming pool financial report.
- The geothermal at the Community Center is not working correctly. The Dir. of Public Works will try to install a pressure relief valve to relieve the pressure in the pipes or put in a by pass system or both.
- Heaters for the new shop will go to bid along with the electrical.
- Remedy for tourists to turn south when they exit the interstate. The Council felt that maybe Steve’s could give directions on his billboards.
Being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting at 7:01 p.m.
