                                                       THE MINUTES

NEW UNDERWOOD CITY COUNCIL

  

A regular meeting of the New Underwood City Council was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center on August 27, 2009.  Present were: Mayor Benita R. White, Councilmember’s: Jackie Dahlquist, Michael Green, John Torrey, and Jack Trullinger.   Also present: Finance Officer Meri Jo Anderson, Dep. McPherson, Lt. Brubakken, Diane Trullinger, Larry & Teri Hockenbary, Bonnie & Burl Barber, and Joe Whitney. 

 

AGENDA

Moved by Green second by Dahlquist to approve the agenda.  Aye: all. Motion

carried.

 

MINUTES                                                               

Moved by Dahlquist second by Trullinger to approve the August 5, 2009 minutes as presented.  Aye: all.  Motion carried.

 

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Deputy McPherson presented copies of the S.D. laws he is enforcing for the bicycle riders in New Underwood in the Council’s efforts to keep the children safe.

The School and Sheriff’s Dept. are setting up the DARE program. 

 

FLOWERS

The flowers at City Hall and the park were donated by Ruth Ekern and taken care of by her this summer.  The Mayor and Council thanked her for the beautification project she created and cared for.

 

ORDINANCE NUMBER 09-04

2010 Budget; ordinance number 09-04 received its first reading.  Motion by Trullinger second by Dahlquist to approve the first reading of Ordinance Number 09-04.  Aye:  Dahlquist, Green, and Trullinger.  Nay:  Torrey.  Motion carried.  (Torrey still would like to cut law enforcement out of the budget.)

BP#09-23; Roland Trullinger; 204 S. Madison; remove door

BP#09-24; Randy Lehmann; 306 S. “A” Ave; storage shed

BP#09-26; Larry Knecht; Janklow Ave; move on mobile home

Motion by Torrey second by Dahlquist to approve  permit numbers: 09-22,23,25,&26.  Aye: all.  Motion carried.

Moved by Torrey second by Dahlquist to deny permit number 09-24 until set backs off the property line are confirmed.  Aye:  Dahlquist, Torrey, and Trullinger.  Abstain:  Green.  Motion carried.

 

CENTENNIAL PRODUCTS

Joe and Dena Whitney have volunteered to sell the centennial souvenirs at the Labor Day celebration.  The Council agreed they could use the old city hall.  A check will be written to get a cash box made up.

Moved by Green second by Trullinger to approve these permits.  Aye:  all.  Motion carried.

 

Other items discussed:

  1. Swimming Pool:  free swim and income and expense figures.
  2. Look up Joe Whitney building permit for extension.

 

Being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
